Adesso SlimTouch Bluetooth Touchpad Mini Keyboard
I received two Adesso Keyboards several weeks ago and set out to test both of them. One is a Mini Keyboard that uses Bluetooth to connect to any Bluetooth equipped computer or Laptop/Notebook. It comes with a Bluetooth Dongle so you can connect it with any computer that has a USB Port but no built-in Bluetooth. That is the product covered in this article. If you are interested in the Desktop Touchpad (USB but non-Bluetooth) Keyboard please CLICK HERE.
In the box: The Keyboard (WKB-4000BB) 2 Batteries The USB Bluetooth Receiver unit Getting Started Manual (in English and French)
System Requirements: •Hardware: IBM, Pentium II class compatible or higher •Operating System: Windows 7, Vista and XP •Port: USB Port for Bluetooth Receiver
When I first opened the Adesso SlimTouch Bluetooth Touchpad Mini Keyboard Model WKB-4000BB I thought: This looks exactly like the Lenovo R400 ThinkPad loner I use. It is quite compact at 11.75" x 8.25" x 0.8 "and fairly light at 1.25 pounds. I decided to set up the keyboard using the Lenovo R400 Thinkpad loaner since the ThinkPad is running Windows 7 and has Bluetooth capability. I installed the batteries, moved the switch to on, and pressed the pairing button. All of these are located on the underside of the unit. The included Getting Started guide was easy to follow. I suggest you use it. I did have to type in an 8 digit access code that was generated for me during setup. If you are too slow reading and typing you will have to generate another number. This is annoying but not enough to complain about. Once paired future connections are simple. Turn the keyboard on and wait awhile then try moving the pointer by sliding your finger over the touchpad. It should work. If you try to do a search for Bluetooth Device by pressing the search button after you turn the keyboard on you will have to enter another 8 digit code to get it to work. In other words once a code is set stay away from the Pairing button.
I tested Bluetooth capability by carrying the keyboard farther and farther away from the Lenovo R400 ThinkPad. It worked fine at any distance up to 20 feet inside the house. Beyond that it became erratic. I hannot think of a reason to go beyound 20 feet im my case.
Here are some tests next to the ThinkPad, at 10 feet, at 20 feet, at 27 feet and outside the house. This is the actual text I typed and saved to a file.
1: Test next to r400 2: Test at 10 feet 3: Test at 20 feet 4:tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttteeesssss ssssssssssssssssssssssssssss: sssttt aaaaat 27 5:tttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt ttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttteeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeest outside
If you are a good touch typist the Adesso SlimTouch Bluetooth Touchpad Mini Keyboard will be great for you. If you are like me and need to see on the screen what you are typing you may have a problem. I did find the keys were closer together than I am used to but I have that problem with any Notebook/Laptop computer. The size and light weigh of this mini keyboard makes it easy to carry on the road and to store anywhere. Controlling your TV or other multi-media system with your Bluetooth enabled computer connected to it is possible. The Adesso SlimTouch Bluetooth Touchpad Mini Keyboard is made for a specific user. If you have those needs it is a good choice. Only you can make that decision.
