Casio Exilim EX-FH100 Hi-Speed Digital Camera More fun than work?
The Casio Exilim EX-FH100 Camera is a bulky one at 4 .1" (W) x 2.5" (H) x 1.2" (D). It weighs a little more than most other Digital Cameras I have tested (8 oz Including Battery and Memory Card). I really have a hard time putting it down. You can bet I am going to hate returning it to Casio when the test period ends. What makes it worth the effort? Where to start?
The Casio EX-FH100 is not for the person who just wants to point and shoot and expect good results. There are many less costly Digital Cameras out there than this $349.00 beauty. (The FH100 can be found for under $300.00 at some locations.) The EX-FH100 is for those who want more than just a good clear shot. It is for buyers who want to move to a camera that will do many things even though that involves some added effort. By that I mean more settings and buttons. Once you get the idea you are in for a great ride.

The 3.0-inch TFT color LCD is bright and sharp in most lighting conditions. Bright sunlight can turn any screen into an unreadable mess and this is no exception.
The Zoom is pretty amazing. It is a 10X ultra wide one that takes great close-ups. As usual you will need a tripod or a post to steady the camera or you will not get a good sharp shot when the zoom is fully extended.
I have included some samples here as well as a few single shots. All of the Photos and Videos during this test can be seen on Flickr by clicking here.
Stop Action Shooting 166 hi-speed photos to get 13 stop action shots. The function is great, will take up to 40 shots in a burst, and works well. Be sure to have several large Storage cards as you will fill space quickly. It took me a few tries to even get the subject lined up properly as well as press and hold the button at the right time. I got better with practice. SEE THE GOOD AND THE BAD by CLICKING HERE to go to my FLICKR site.
Hi Speed Movies 1000 frames a second makes for some super slow motion videos. I have posted many on Flicker CLICK HERE to take a look. The monkey videos in slow motion are a hoot.
If you are planning to use this camera to its fullest capability I suggest you double check to see that you are in the proper mode prior to taking the next round of photos. Taking 40 stop action shots of everything in sight is a waste of storage space and battery. If you are in high-speed burst mode the camera will show you that on screen. You can also just press the burst/single shot button and see what comes up on the screen. The camera will also tell you what mode you are in when you turn it on. VIDEOS? Just take a short video and play it back before you start. If it is slow and that is not what you want then change the mode. I can assure you that the young turtle video I thought I took in normal speed was not what I wanted when I played it back the next day and found it was slower than any turtle I have ever seen. It was an opportunity lost in one way but a laughable thing to see at 33 times slower than real life.
High-def or DVD quality video is another capability that makes the EX-FH100 interesting. 1280 x 720-pixel HD movies at a rate of 30 frames can be taken and viewed on your TV or, with the included software; it can be viewed on your computer or moved to DVDs. Connect with the included USB cable.
You may still use the “BEST SHOT” mode on the EX-FH100 just as you have with their point and shoot cameras to get good photos with little or no effort. Be aware that, when in BEST SHOT MODE, some other functions are limited or not accessible at all. The camera will notify you when you attempt to access them
Due to the wide variety of options with the Casio EX-FH100 I would suggest you take a look at the full 209 page manual by CLICKING HERE. This will give you a better understanding of the how much the FH100 can really do.
There is much to enjoy about this camera. I will be testing the Casio Ex-FH100 during August. Many more samples of what it can do will be posted on Flickr CLICK HERE. If I see anything that makes me feel less happy with the FH-100 I will post it here. I am fairly confident that will not happen. If you are ready to move to something more interesting that can truly amaze your friends the Casio EX-FH100 is a good contender for that move.
