Genius eFace High-Def Webcam 2050AF
With a new baby girl to be delivered and a three year old boy already at our daughter’s home in Hilton Head I found the Genius eFace High-def Webcam a great testing possibility. We are the grandparents who live at a distance. Wanting to be in closer contact I decided to install the eFace 2050AF on the daughter’s desktop. I hoped that adding Skype as well could make for frequent connections with the little ones. The overall results were pretty great with just a few glitches. The eFace 2050AF is a very compact camcorder with a good mic and a 2.0 Megapixal camera.
The box includes: The 2.0 MP camera A CD with CrazyTalk Cam SuitePro for photo and video use. Includes quick upload capability to YouTube. USB cable to connect the eFace to the Computer. Very basic install guide.
Due to the small size of the unit you can clip it almost anywhere on the monitor or nearby. Just try to get a good broad view of yourself and/or other subjects.
When installing the software items from the included CD be sure to download the manual. It is very detailed and will help you with various video applications such as Yahoo, Windows Messenger, Skype, and AOl Instant messenger. The CrazyTalk support in manual will help you quickly master the software.

After several tests using the included CrazyTalk application for snapshots and other functions such as Capture, Avatar, Magic Mirror, Media Share, Desktop Share, and monitor I elected to install Skype on both the Lenovo R400 and our daughter’s Dell Desktop. Skype installed easily on the ThinkPad. Skype had a few issues as it locked up the daughter’s Dell desktop. This also started happening with The Lenovo R400 test laptop. When I googled the issue I found that many others were having the same issue when using Skype. Both computers were running Win XP and there seems to be something going on with Service pack 2 that makes systems lock up with this combination of Skype and XP. This issue had no relation to the eFace install or performance itself. We switched to Windows Live Messenger instead of spending time troubleshoting the problem.
Soon I was seeing and speaking to the daughter. My first task was to grab a screen shot of her. (She is using her Cell during setup but the eFace Audio works fine)
When the grandson saw me on the computer monitor he ran out to see if I was on the big TV in the living room. The video and screen shots are quite clear.

You may want to set the camera up using Yahoo or one of the other messaging programs that are mentioned above.
