MagicJack a low cost phone experience A Magic phone for real
I have been given a MagicJack connector USB unit twice when at CES. I admit I was a little gun-shy after reading their PR and seeing the TV infomercials. I, as do many others, adhere to the old adage “If it seems to good to be true it probably is.” When I was looking for hardware and/or programs to test run on the Lenovo ThinkPad R-400 which is now running Windows 7 RC build 7100 I found the most recent MagicJack unit. I followed the easy setup and was amazed. I have a one year test account. Should I have any issues during that time I will post them here. So far all is well.

Setup
I followed the basic instructions. Choosing the area code was interesting as I live in Key West, Florida but all the available area codes seem to be on the east cost of middle to upper Florida. It took me about 6 minutes to complete the task. I had to wait about 45 minutes for MagicJack to setup the phone number and the account. I picked up the very basic $10.00 phone I use for testing and immediately had a dial tone. I dialed one of the test cell phones on my desk and was connected. I then dialed the MagicJack phone number from that cell phone and heard a very nice voice tell me the person I called was not available at this time but I could leave a voice mail. I did that and a note about the message I left arrived almost instantly in my email inbox. Instructions were provided for access.

MagicJack is not in the business of giving free 30 day or even one year calling accounts without a purpose. They make that clear with many ads on their site as well as on the menu structure on screen and even a small splash screen that shows on the monitor when your system boots up. They offer a number of options starting with 30 days free and up to five years paying an annual fee. See the options below.
Other Features Call Forwarding International Dialing (Must Prepay or provide credit card) 911 Service
The setup is simple. Service seems to be good. I suggest you try the basic 30 free offer and see if it will work for you. For more details on MagicJack click here.
