Panda Platinum 2006 Internet Security V 10.01 I have often used the Panda website to do a free check for viruses and other problems. The online service takes longer than if you download the free version. It has saved my computer several times.
I was happy to receive a copy of Panda Platinum to try out. It came at a great time as McAfee had just done an automatic update for both their anti virus and firewall protection. I called McAfee and they refunded the money charged to my credit card with no questions.
Panda recommends removing any old protection software so I did that first. It is a good idea to unplug any connections to the internet while doing this install since you are without a firewall or anti virus during the process.
Panda’s installation went smoothly. There were easy instructions to follow during the entire time. It is programmed to run a complete virus check of your system after install and did so without finding a problem. I plugged in the phone line and went on the internet. All seems to work fine.
As with most firewall/anti virus programs I have used, there are boxes that open whenever a program on my system wants to access the Internet. Panda gives you several choices of action you can take. It also offers suggestions as to what choice they feel is best. This is much like other products of this nature. There are links to their own knowledge base as well as Microsoft update site.
After an automatic virus check completed late in the evening, a box opened to tell me Panda had found a vulnerability. Something called MS6-006. I was directed to the Microsoft upgrade site and found nothing about this alert. Panda had nothing on its site either. The box kept coming up for three days and I continued to search for answers.
The next day I saw the same box with the same alert in it. I accessed Microsoft and found much detail about the problem. It must have been added recently. It did not affect me as I only use Internet explorer. The short story here is that Panda seemed to find the problem before there was an answer at Microsoft. It seems Panda was giving me a warning. It still was good to know. With this comforting information I told the box not to remind me again when it popped up on the monitor.
I will continue to use Panda Platinum 2006 Internet Security for my computer protection. I find this to be a very serious subject. Too many computer/internet users are totally unprotected. I recommend Panda Platinum 2006 to those who need to plug those open gates to their data.
