Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go USB Drive
I love it when things go right! Thumb drives and all the other dinky, but helpful, USB drives that are on the market just don’t cut it for space junkies like me. Bigger is better as far as storage space goes while smaller is the winner when it comes to the size of the enclosure that surrounds it. With this product I begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Verbatim has combined a 1 inch hard drive and a USB connector to make a storage device that is smaller and slimmer than a Zippo lighter. It holds up to 12 Gigabytes of your stuff. Store ‘n’ Go USB Drive is the name. Packrats need to jump on this one. It also comes preloaded with Mobile Launchpad. To quote Verbatim; “Mobile Launchpad also allows users to have complete access to personal files and data without loading the content on a guest system. For quick and immediate access, the drives can also be used in the familiar drag 'n' drop mode.” My review unit worked exactly as stated. The Verbatim Mobile Launchpad also includes synchronization software loaded in the interface that will help you keep you home and travel file versions in sync.
I copied a 3.6 Gig video file on to the drive from my desktop computer. I also used drag and drop to copy a number of files to the Stor ‘n’ Go including music, word documents, and some photos. I then connected the Stor ‘n’ Go to a USB port on my notebook. Using Mobile Launchpad I clicked a link to “Add Programs” that takes you to the Ceedo web page where I found a number of mini programs for use with the Stor ‘n’ Go Drive.
I downloaded some of those to install on the Store ‘n’ Go hard drive. The first was Opera an Internet Web Browser I have often wanted to check out. I then added Mozilla Thunderbird an Email client, Calendarscope 3 an appointment manager by Duality Software, Winamp 5.24 a music player, ripper/CD burner/video player by Nullsoft, Foxit Reader 1.3 a PDF reader and printer by Foxit Software Company, and Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 a great tool for anyone. There are many other software items available to help the Stor ‘n’ Go make you more mobile. You can check them out at the Ceedo website After all of that I still have 6 GIGs of empty space left. I am sure I will fill it.
It is important to close the Mobile Launchpad before disconnecting the drive. On the Mobile Launchpad interface there is an "Eject" button, the button to the right of center which turns red when the mouse is placed over it (see the screen shot on the right). This closes Ceedo/Mobile Launchpad, cleans up the temp items and ejects from the system all in one.
If I could find a mini version of Word to put on this drive and maybe an Excel viewer it would really be a portable desk for me. I will have to look around. Check back once in a while to see how using this very useful product works for me.
