WikiReader More than you ever want to know
If you have not heard of Wikipedia you better have someone check your pulse! Back in 2001 that site was born. All has not been perfect. Believe it or not some people take the opportunity to report false information as fact. That may or may not be under control at this point but Wikipedia is an ever growing presence on the web. Now you can carry it around with you. All 3,000,000 entries! They are contained in a little wedge shaped unit that allows you to find stuff you and I never thought would be available at the flick of a finger. That’s right the WikiReader has a touch screen with a touch keyboard built in. It runs for up to 12 months on 2 standard AA batteries but can also use rechargeable AAs. It is small and easy to read. Direct sunlight makes reading the screen more difficult. At $99.00 it is not cheap. But it is FUN in capital letters. Updates are available on the internet for $29.00 each.
Call me self-involved but one of the first things I search for when I can is my last name. So I tapped it in and came up with an article that was in Forbes magazine 30 or 40 years ago. It has to do with a torture device called the Scavenger’s daughter. It was invented by Sir William Skevington. No relation as far as I know. He ran the Tower of London. The device was used to collect taxes and other stuff for the King. It is where the phrase “Paying through the nose.” comes from. There were also several references as to where you could find drawings. Enough of that!
If you are really bored you can press the RANDOM button to see random entries. After pushing RANDOM several times I got a screen headed PARENTAL CONTROLS. I guess RAMDOM might bring an article up that contains something parents want to keep from their kids. The ability to set a password was offered at that point. Of course I did not set a password. I kept hitting RANDOM hoping to see what might be hidden from me if I did set a password. I have report no luck.
My next effort was prior to the Oscars show. I kept saying Beau Bridges and my wife laughed at me. So I looked up the entire Bridges family. It is a big one. That lead me to Beau Brummell (a long ago clothes horse) and then for some reason I ended up reading about Love Handles.
You get the idea. The WikiReader is addictive and fun. It certainly is an ice breaker. There is always another article. I only have 2,999,992 to go. For more information on the WikiReader CLICK HERE.
