Logitech X-240 2.1 Speaker System
The X-240 2.1 Speaker system by Logitech is an interesting product. At first look it is bulky compared to other MP3 external audio enhancement systems. Its two satellite speakers, subwoofer, and control center certainly take up some space on your desk. As a matter of fact I don’t have room for it on the small desk that holds my desktop, mouse, monitor, and scanner. I also have a surround sound audio system for the Media Center Desktop that performs just fine so I looked for other uses and found several. Use of this system requires an AC outlet to power it in any configuration. With an MSRP of $50.00 and discounts as low as $35.00 at Amazon this is a good buy for those who want improved audio without the higher costs attached to higher performing speakers sets.
Package Contents Speakers: 2 satellites 1 subwoofer Control center with integrated MP3 player cradle Color coded audio cable MP3 player cable iPod®, iPod® video, iPod® nano adapters Microsoft® Zune adapter Users Manual 2-year limited warranty
Attach to the Lenovo ThinkPad notebook One cable to plug into the ThinkPad loaner Headphone jack and I had some really decent sounds. That option is good at home but too bulky to add to my road tools.
As a stand alone speaker system to expand my MP3 player I connected my very low-end Creative Movo MP3 player to the X-240 control center to create a freestanding system. I was amaze at the sound that was produced. I did have to adjust the Subwoofer at times depending on the music being played.
Connect the Blackburry Curve I am testing for AT&T I had to use the headphone jack in the Curve as the X-240 Speaker system is not Bluetooth capable. The sound was very acceptable. I did have to move the Blackberry, when connected, several feet from the speakers and control center to stop some of the clicks and other sounds that come from the Curve when it was doing some background stuff. A wireless/bluetooth speaker system might work better in these circumstances. If your cell phone/music player has a non-standard headphone connector (Samsung for instance) you will have to find a work around to get your music to play through these speakers. If it has a 2.5 mm Jack you will need an adaptor.
Since it does work well with the Lenovo ThinkPad loaner I would think it would also make a great replacement for the basic set of speakers that may have come with your desktop computer.
The MP3 Cradle seems flimsy and my tiny MP3 player would not fit in it anyway so I just placed it on the desk next to the speaker system. Several holders for other music players are included. They were not tested as I did not have access to those products. A short cable to connect your IPod Headphone jack to the Control center is also provided with the Logitech X-240 speaker system as there is no place for the IPod base connection normally used.

The Logitech X-240 2.1 speaker system is good product given its cost to performance ratio. Those who need better performance or a more compact portable unit will need to look elsewhere. I like it as an audio boost for the ThinkPad and as a standalone unit that lets my MP3 player fill the room with plenty of decent sound. FOR MORE ON THIS AND OTHER LOGITECH PRODUCTS CLICK HERE
