Zonet - Class 2 USB 2.0 Bluetooth Wireless Adapter Model ZUB6212C
When I first opened the box and found this tiny Blue USB unit I thought “NO WAY.” It looked like a blue USB drive not something that could add Bluetooth functions to my five year old Dell Inspiron. I placed the mini CD in the drive and followed the easy install instructions. I did a reboot as required and plugged the unit into a USB port. It was recognized and, after a mouse click or two, I was looking at the opening screen of a program called BlueSoleil. This is the place where connections and pairings are tracked. The version of BlueSoleil on the CD is limited to 5 MB of transfer. If you want more freedom you need to get a licensed version by going to their site at www.bluesoleil.com .
The entire experience was about as good as using a built-in Bluetooth service. I had recently reviewed a Lenovo Bluetooth Mouse so I turned it on and it was automatically recognized but the Zonet Bluetooth device connected to the Dell. It worked perfectly. I did not have to install the Lenovo Mouse drivers. I then tried my Samsung Sync cell phone from AT&T. I turned on Bluetooth in the phone and searched for available Bluetooth connections. It found the Dell/Zonet USB. I was able to use the Sync phone to create a shared folder on the Dell copy 30 photos from the Dell to the phone using the Zonet Bluetooth USB unit. 15 of those files were transferred from about 20 feet away in another room through two walls.
Next I paired the older Dell notebook with theLenovo ThinkPad loaner. I had to use a passkey on both systems but it worked. I was able to copy 8 photos and 2 short songs from the Dell to the ThinkPad using the BlueSoliel software and the Zonet USB Bluetooth unit. This was done with a wall and about 30 feet between the units.
I was pleasantly surprised by what could be done with this unassuming little USB unit. At a cost of $16.00 or so (Rebates are available at times) it is well worth the money if you have an older computer that does not have Bluetooth as an internal option. It was simple and worked well.
